DeviantART Muro

Basics

You can import a deviation into muro,(View your deviation, then look on the right and select import to deviantART Muro) or just draw.
Muro works on wacom tablets which have pressure sensitivity. Which is awesome.
It also works on mobile devices but gets a little laggy.
Save often!

Muro by Astrikos

See the layers? You can import an image to a layer. You can do simple photo manipulations in Muro.
Adjust Muro by Astrikos
Play around with curves and saturation. If you destroy your image, undo is only CNTRL+Z away. Using curves you can easily make your favorite photograph vintage.

Muro Shortcuts

  • CNTRL + Z: Undo
  • CNTRL + Y: Redo
  • Spacebar and drag: pan around (if you are zoomed in)
  • CNTRL + A: Select All
  • CNTRl + D: Deselect All
  • ] increase brush size
  • [ decrease brush size
  • Any number will change the opacity of the brush ( ten % increments)
  • ,. will allow you to scroll through the tools/ brushes.
  • E: Eraser
  • Holding shift while drawing will create a straight line
  • And you can discover the rest on your own! A lot of these are common shortcuts. (IE: PS, GIMP, SAI, Etc.)

Redraw

Redraw is useful if you like creating tutorials. This feature is also fun. Show people all those amazing steps you did to create your piece!

If you want to see your redraw pre submit, open the thumbnail (that means you hit view.) so you can see the options. It's under the delete bar, above details.

Looks familiar right? This is useful if you want to annotate something. Perhaps you want to create a tutorial using muro, this feature can allow you to do that. Or maybe you want to create something funny.

Look, I used it to point something out. It's useful!

For some reason, it's not recognizing my tablet. I mean, it works, but there's no pressure sensitivity, and that "works with Wacom" icon isn't in the corner. (Unless they got rid of it. Haven't used Muro in a long time.) And before you ask, yes the pressure sensitivity works for my other art programs.

I dont know why, but my pressure sensitivity doesnt work with this! It works w/ photoshop and SAI but not Muro :/

Damn. I spent hours trying to make the "basic" brush work with pressure sensitivity of my tablet. And it just doesn't.
But the others do... :(

Screenshot of the pen not working?
It's just what I said. ^^

dez.kuiki.net/gallery/dump/pre…

In fact... on my laptop at home, all the tools were pressure sensitive except for the basic brush.
Here (on my desktop computer) NONE of the tools are pressure sensitive. Pretty sure I'm using the same tablet with the same drivers. ^^;

That's very strange.

If the drivers are fine, I'm guessing it's a glitch within muro. Does changing browsers fix the issue?

Is there a special driver to download or something? (and yes, same problems with IE, Firefox and Chrome)

Not any separate ones that came with your tablet.
That's so strange. D: Maybe go to the help desk on this one

My Wacom Intuos4 tablet refuses to cooperate with Muro... can't move naturally, the pressure sensivity gets insane and in terms of getting a desired shape, MS Paint works better with it.
I use it in Gimp, becuase I can get the shades the most naturally to me, I try PT SAI for a few months but for lines if I need a lineart because I can't fint the comfortable tool settings for shading:P.

Hmm. Maybe your drivers are crazy? :lol:Sometimes muro is crazy. But fun. SAI is good for shading use marker and lessen blending and persistence. Bam. Shading. Or you could go in with airbrush and watertool together. Or PS? You should have elements with your tablet right?

I don't know... seems to work where it should but Muro... Muro is an exeption.
I'd like to avoid artificial smugging and blending... I like the simplicity of Gimp, when everything depends on my own moves only. The pressure opacity in SAI works strange too me in opposite to the pressure width which works nice. Maybe I really can't find the right tool settings? I tried to copy the settings from others who mastered SAI and shared their screen online, but it still doesn't work like I'd like to, maybe I'm strange because of Gimp?:P
No, I had Sketchkook Express^^; I was too stupid then and thought the Photoshop I could choose when registering the tablet was for (photo) editing, not creating:P (does such one exist?) And I couldn't find any info about it. I found out about the good reputation of Photoshops too late as well.

You can tweak stuff in SAI.
SAI will blend a lot, unless you turn persistence and blending down. Might help with your pressure issues.

I like sketchbook, and PS is nice too.

Dang, I didn't know you could create awesome-looking stuff like that in Muro. I thought it was just a slightly upgraded MS Paint.

Yeah, just a little. I still don't get why dA didn't make a deal with Aviary. You would think that "we have a potential of five million users for your online app, do you want to be used here?" was a legit selling point...

It would have profited both...

I mean, Aviary is a complete suite, has applications for audio, video, images and vectors... Just imagine how much money dA could have saved by promoting it in the beginning of its life cycle...

Oh yeah, I'm so jealous that I'm not using a moneysink of a feature on dA that sucks the RAM out of my ultrabook. Seriously, normally, FireFox used at least 2 gigs of RAM and with Muro, it easily sucks out twice that. Not to mention that it crashes my tablet driver more often than it should.

GIMP's free. And it does a much, much better job.
And if you want an online alternative, look at Aviary.

For all of the money dA tossed into MURO, we could have fixed .PNG rendering, given the chat client a full overhaul, fixed searching, maybe added one or two premium exclusive features like a banner on your page, hired competent staff and saved a lot of server space.

Thanks for posting this. Muro is a blast to use & I hope to use it more.
Any tips for how to make it run better on a Kindle Fire? It seems to crash pretty fast(within seconds) if I try to use it on my kindle. I think I would use it a lot more if I did not have to be at my pc to use it.
