Memoirs of a Geisha should be BANNEDA/N: This is an opinion piece. If you disagree with me, state why in the comments, but no flaming.
Can't believe I wasted my money on that crap (it was only $1 when I bought it in Canada, but even $1 is a big deal for a Vietnamese like me). Can't believe I actually liked that crap.
So what did I do? Yesterday, I tore off every single page of that "book" and dumped the mess into the bin. That was worth it.
Actual rant time. Here are the reasons why I believe MoaG is worse than Twilight and should be pulled off of bookshelves everywhere.
1. Cultural Appropriation
The book reminds me about so-called "Vietnamese restaurants" in Thailand. One claims to serve "Hanoi pho" but Vietnamese people from Hanoi can't eat a single item off their menus. All dishes are modified to fit the appetite of Thai people. I'm not sure about you, but this just screams a huge "CULTURAL APPROPRIATION" to me. Arthur Golden did the same with his book, stating himself that MoaG was written
